Del Taco, the country's second largest Mexican food chain, was acquired by Captain D's restaurants in a transaction that was financed in part by a significant equity investment by a large west coast private equity fund. The California-based company operates or franchises more than 500 restaurants in 16 states offering a full range of Mexican items such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas and American favorites including hamburgers, fries and shakes.
